Early Life

Billie was born and raised in Los Angeles. Her parents were actors and musicians. She and her older brother Finneas were homeschooled, which gave them plenty of time to explore music and creativity.

As a child, Billie joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus and learned ukulele. She loved dance too, but a hip injury in her early teens shifted her focus fully to songwriting and recording.

Rise to Fame

In 2015, Billie recorded Ocean Eyes — a song written and produced by Finneas. It was uploaded to SoundCloud and went viral overnight. Her soft, haunting voice introduced a completely new kind of pop star.

In 2017, she released her debut EP Don't Smile at Me with hits like Bellyache and Copycat. Her dark, emotional sound and unique visual style quickly built a massive young fanbase.

Albums & Major Songs

When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019)

Her debut album made her a global superstar. Included hits like Bad Guy, Bury a Friend, When the Party's Over. The bedroom-produced sound reshaped modern pop.

Happier Than Ever (2021)

A more mature and reflective album exploring fame, privacy, and relationships. The title track became one of her most praised songs for its quiet start and explosive rock ending.

Hit Me Hard and Soft (2024)

Her third album continued her evolution with songs like Lunch, Chihiro, Birds of a Feather, and Wildflower. Praised for emotional depth and confident vocals.

Film Songs

No Time to Die (James Bond) and What Was I Made For? (Barbie) both won Academy Awards for Best Original Song.

Awards & Achievements

At the 2020 Grammys, Billie became one of the youngest artists to win all four major categories in one night: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist.

Artistic Style

Billie's music blends pop, electropop, and dark electronic sounds. Her vocals are often whispery and intimate, but can shift into heavy bass, dramatic melodies, or rock energy.

Her lyrics explore anxiety, identity, heartbreak, fame, and self-discovery. Early in her career, she became known for oversized clothing and bold visual choices that rejected typical pop star expectations.

Partnership with FINNEAS

Finneas O'Connell, Billie's older brother, is her main songwriter and producer. Together they create music with unusual arrangements, detailed production, and lyrics that feel personal and emotionally direct. Their close collaboration is a key reason behind her unique sound.

Activism & Influence

Beyond music, Billie speaks openly about mental health, body image, climate change, and animal welfare. She encourages fans to vote, supports environmental causes, and often discusses the pressures of growing up in the public eye.
